In the News...

7/08 The MWRA Advisory Board's response to the Department of Justice/Environmental Protection Agency complaint and settlement regarding operating practices on Deer Island is as follows: "When all is said and done, the indefensible fine and subsequent SEPs, based on nothing more than a paper violation, are not about righting an environmental wrong or ensuring environmental justice. It is about one thing, and one thing only - extracting a "pound of flesh" from the MWRA, its ratepayers and the communities. The ratepayers who will pay this fine are the same ratepayers who have contributed billions of dollars transforming Boston Harbor from a national disgrace to an environmental success story. This fine is a travesty of justice and epitomizes what is wrong with EPA. Go after the polluters, not the entities that have done the right thing." -- Joseph Favaloro, Executive Director, MWRA Advisory Board

12/07 The Advisory Board released its 21st Annual Water and Sewer Retail Rate Survey reporting an average increase of 6.2% in combined retail water and sewer bills in 2007 for customers in the MWRA service area. This is the fourth out of the last five years that rate increases have been above six percent.
11/07 In response to a request for information from the Executive Office for Administration & Finance, the Advisory Board compiled a report about the history and success of the Debt Service Assistance Program. Read the report and its attachments to understand why dollar for dollar, Debt Service Assistance is the best way to ease the burden of the ratepayers.
