We hope you can join us, Thursday, August 22, for an outing to the MWRA Pellet Plant (located at the Fore River Shipyard & operated by NEFCO) followed by a visit to the Nut Island Headworks.

In addition to touring these facilities, the route will take us by Moakley Park. There will be an onboard presentation about recent site work performed by the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), as well as the MWRA wastewater systems adjacent (Columbus Park Headworks) and within and beneath the park (South Boston CSO Storage Tunnel & Relief Valve).

Itinerary

  • 8:00 AM – check-in (coffee and refreshments provided)
  • 8:30 AM – bus departs Chelsea (2 Griffin Way) PROMPTLY at 8:30
    (self-drivers can meet tour at the Pellet Facility at 9:30 AM)
  • Bus ride to the MWRA Pellet Plant with podcasts
  • 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM – Tour the Pellet Facility, Fore River Shipyard (551 South Street, Quincy)
  • Bus ride to Nut Island Headworks (147 Sea Ave, Quincy) with podcasts
  • 11:30 – 12:30 PM – Tour Nut Island Headworks
  • 12:30 PM – lunch at Nut Island
  • Bus leaves Nut Island at 2:30 PM, returning to Chelsea at approximately 3:30 PM

We suggest bringing a hat and wearing sunscreen!
