The Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) has issued a notice to MWRA that it intends to sue for failing to enforce its industrial pretreatment regulations. A copy of the letter can be viewed on CLF’s website here. CLF alleges that MWRA is not adequately enforcing these regulations, and that this could lead to toxic chemicals being released from the Deer Island Treatment Plant into Boston Harbor.
MWRA staff is looking into the claims and will have more updates in future. The purpose of CLF’s letter is to provide a 60-day window for EPA to take enforcement action and for MWRA to comply or enter into settlement negotiations.
Advisory Board staff will continue to monitor this ongoing matter as it develops and report back.
